When Volunteers of America was founded, a “volunteer” was someone whose vocation was to serve others through a commitment to a mission. Today, we are still staffed by mission-driven professionals working to support individuals and build thriving communities, only now we call them “employees.”

After serving nearly seven years in the U.S. Army, including deployment to Afghanistan, Shalliea’s journey included challenges with trauma, loss, homelessness, and recovery. Today, her story is one of healing, hope, and resilience.![]()

Shalliea is now a resident at Space Coast Commons, after previously receiving support through our Veterans Transitional Facility. Her journey reflects the life-changing impact of stable housing, compassionate services, and continued community support.![]()
