When Volunteers of America was founded, a “volunteer” was someone whose vocation was to serve others through a commitment to a mission. Today, we are still staffed by mission-driven professionals working to support individuals and build thriving communities, only now we call them “employees.”

Juneteenth is a powerful reminder that freedom, though promised, is not always immediately realized. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, the final enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free. It was a moment of joy, reflection, and truth.![]()

As we reflect on this day, we are reminded of the words in Galatians 5:1:![]()
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then…”![]()

And in Amos 5:24:![]()
“Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!”![]()

We’re so grateful to The Home Depot Foundation and Team Depot volunteers from across Brevard County for an incredible day of service at our Space Coast Commons program. 🧡![]()

Together, they assembled 100 cleaning kits for residents and veterans in our Cocoa transitional housing program, and helped transform our storage space with new shelving and organization to better support ongoing resident needs.![]()
