VOAF and partners will support veterans in transitioning to stable alternative housing
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (May 11, 2026) — Volunteers of America of Florida (VOAF) today
reaffirmed its commitment to supporting veterans with compassion, dignity, and continuity of
care as the organization works with veterans and partners to navigate an upcoming program
transition. VOAF announced that its Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Programs in Tallahassee, Lake
City, Jacksonville, Gainesville, Ocala, and Tampa are expected to conclude on September 30,
2026, absent a reversal or alternative funding solution, following a lapse in renewal of
approximately $5 million in annual U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) GPD funding for
these locations.
No veteran is being asked to leave immediately. Veterans currently residing in these programs
may remain in place while individualized transition planning is underway. VOAF staff, VA
representatives, and community partners will work alongside each veteran to prepare and
secure safe, stable, and appropriate housing options in advance of September 30, 2026.
VOAF remains committed to supporting veterans with compassion, respect, and proactive
planning throughout the transition period and continues to pursue every available option to
sustain services. VOAF staff, each veteran’s Independent Living Coach (ILC), VA representatives,
and community partners will continue working together to identify resources, services, and
housing opportunities that support each veteran’s next step forward.
“At Volunteers of America of Florida, our commitment to veterans goes far beyond housing. It is
a promise to stand beside those who served our nation with dignity, compassion, and
unwavering support. We are committed to working closely with the U.S. Department of Veterans
Affairs, community partners, and each veteran to help ensure a safe transition and a stable next
step.” said Janet Stringfellow, Volunteers of America of Florida President/CEO.
VOAF and partners will assist participating veterans with:
- Housing referrals and applications
- Coordination of benefits and supportive services
- Connections to community resources and housing providers
- Transition planning and individualized support
While VOAF remains fully committed to supporting veterans through this transition, absent a
reversal or alternative funding solution, services are expected to conclude on September 30,
2026. VOAF welcomes community partnership during this period, including collaboration from
housing providers, service organizations, and local stakeholders to help expand options and
supports available to veterans across Florida.
