GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Volunteers of America of Florida (VOAFL) is pleased to announce the purchase of a new property to provide transitional housing for unhoused veterans. Help for homeless veterans

Gale Henderson served active duty in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 1982 and several years in reserve duty. He worked in golf course maintenance until he suffered from congestive heart failure. “I kept getting tired easily,” said Henderson, 60. He had heart valve replacement surgery in September 2022 and his world began to unwind. Henderson ultimately had to stop working and said he made some bad financial decisions on his homestead. He said that after family members and friends failed to step up to help, he found himself on the street. Click here to read the full story

Expanding Veteran Support: Volunteers of America of Florida Partners with The Home Depot Foundation for New Transitional Housing for Formerly Homeless Veterans 

WHAT: Volunteers of America of Florida (VOAFL) is pleased to announce the purchase of a new property to provide transitional housing for unhoused veterans.  On Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., we are delighted to partner with The Home Depot Foundation and Team Depot, Home Depot’s associate volunteer force, to refurbish the newly acquired property.  Our collaborative efforts with Team Depot will focus on cleaning, painting, and organizing each room to create an inviting space for incoming veterans.
